A reflection of The 4th Executive Council Meeting of The World Federation of KSIMC

Three weeks ago, I had the opportunity and pleasure to participate to the 4th Executive Council meeting of the World Federation, held in my hometown, Antananarivo, Madagascar. The meeting, in overall, seemed very impressing to me, for it was the first time I was involved in such an important one, with leaders from all around the world that brought their different and interesting ideas & perspectives together, to animate the assembly. And after all, it would definitely seem that astonishing to an eighteen years old, seated between people of such a high level, wouldn’t it?

The meeting started well with the welcomes of the Regional Council and the Jamat of Antananarivo to the guests that had come from far to attend the conference, and was followed by speeches and updates by members of the World Federation. For sure, there was a vibrant and exciting atmosphere over the three days, which had put everyone into ease, and allowed the work, everyone came for, to go very well. Going along the program that was set by the Secretary General, Shan Bhai, the participants discussed each points and issues that were concerned, and with such a precise plan, everything was under control almost all the time, except may be for the starting-again of the conference after each pause (after all, in Madagascar, we all have the habit to go “mora mora”, which in Malagasy means slowly, with no rush, and I guess, the guests got into the move as well).

One among the important aspects of the meeting was, from my opinion, the seminar given by Dr. Akbar about how to eradicate poverty within our community. With the audience seated in circles, it gave importance to each and had given everyone such confidence, that almost everyone responded to the questions asked by Dr. Akbar.

Once again, the conference was amazing and everyone did a good job preparing, animating, and participating to it but I thought the participation of youth and ladies was an essential point, which was unfortunately missing. As Dr. Akbar pointed out during his forum, if ladies and youth had been present at the assembly, they would have certainly brought a very new and noteworthy viewpoint about poverty and how to emancipate it, but I believe they would have done so as well in the overall of the program. In fact, the assembly involved a lot of experience with our elders seating there, but it lacked of ideas and creativity, due to the low attendance of the youngsters of out community. As for ladies, I learned from the MBTI personality test I took, that there are two types of people, the feelers and the thinkers, and the feelers, which I’m certain most of women are, are those doing their work with passion, and the passion and dedication of women could have brought more vivacity to the meeting.

The work done by the members of the World Federation is fantastic, just as the members themselves that are all very pleasant and experienced. By joining the team, I want to try to do something for our community, and am looking forward to see more youngsters and ladies involved as well insha’allah.
